IDA is pleased to announce its next Doc U Seminar: a special evening with filmmaker, R.J. Cutler who will discuss his latest film and share the story of his extraordinary success. R.J. Cutler is a director and producer of documentary films and television. Most recently, he directed and produced The September Issue, the feature documentary about legendary Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The September Issue premiered in competition at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize for Outstanding Cinematography. Currently playing in theaters around the world, the film enjoyed the fifth largest premiere is U.S. documentary history. Cutler began his career producing The War Room, the Oscar-nominated documentary about Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign for the presidency directed by D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus. Other projects include the films A Perfect Candidate and Thin and over twenty television series, including American High, 30 Days, Black White, Freshman Diaries, The Residents and Military Diaries. Cutler has won an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award, and a GLAAD Award and has been nominated for an Academy Award, a Producer's Guild Award and an Independent Spirit Award among others. This past year he received the Television Academy’s Honor Award for his work “creating television with a conscience.”

Eddie Schmidt (moderator) is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, writer/producer, and commentator, as well as the Board President of the International Documentary Association (IDA). Feature credits include producing & co-writing the acclaimed IFC documentary THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED, producing and shooting HBO's powerful TWIST OF FAITH (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award), and producing the groundbreaking teenage mosaic CHAIN CAMERA. All three films were released theatrically and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
