About the Project

How do we begin to heal national trauma? How does the heart navigate the terrain of forgiveness? Until we grapple with our shared American history, including the genocide against the original inhabitants of this land, we’ll be condemned to perpetuate our wrongs.

This is an eyewitness account of the truth and reconciliation process between the Lakota community, the white descendant of the US Cavalry General who commanded the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890, and the US government. Healing Wounded Knee demonstrates how the historical and intergenerational trauma that we carry can be transformed when native and non-natives work together.
