The Sitting Machine

"Why is it this way? Could it be another way?" This entertaining tale of exploration and discovery features eight public school students who are taken beyond standardized tests into a creative experience that challenges them to think beyond the ordinary. Follow unconventional teacher Mrs. Smith and her fifth-grade students for seven months as they complete The Sitting Machine Project - they must each design and construct their own full-size functional sitting machine (chair) using only cardboard and glue. With their imaginations piqued, the ten-year-olds take risks and press their personal limits. Creative thinking gets messy. But it can also yield unexpected triumphs. Will the sitting machines work? What will they look like? What will the children learn?
